Virtual Bipolar Disorder utilizes real time 3D gaming technology.

Interactive VR experiences focus on ease of use and portability and utilize instructional technology to convey complex ideas relevant to mental health. All simulations are viewable on the desktop, in a browser, with head mounted displays and CAVE environments and can be delivered on the Web, CD or DVD for Macintosh and Windows computers

Introducing psyVR

psyVR emerged out of several years of collaboration and conversations between Phil Sauter, a multimedia engineer, and Ravi Reddy, an academic psychiatrist, on the potential of utilizing virtual reality technology for education in a wide range of settings, as well clinical problems suitably addressed by the application of VR methods.

Introducing "Dave"

Dave is a 30 year-old man who has been suffering from severe bipolar disorder for 5 years. Today we find Dave at a street corner in downtown Pittsburgh causing a disturbance. About a week ago he stopped his antimanic and antipsychotic medications and is now in the midst of a severe manic episode accompanied by psychosis. Whenever Dave has a relapse he becomes paranoid and experiences hallucinations.

The very brief scene you are about to view starts from an observer's point of view and quickly transforms to Dave's perspective, which of course is really your virtual world.
